it is with great pleasure that I present to you my joint work with the Butter Agency and Das Ortliche for DFB(Deutschland Fussball Bundes). this series of illustrations is dedicated to the referee. the graphic design, motifs and main background color were provided by the team, while the illustrations were my responsibility. a series of these illustrations is dedicated to the facts about the referee in football. during the drawing of the project, I learned a lot of new things for myself, I would never have thought that the profession of a referee is so interesting and complex
this fact refers to the illustration above
all referee observers watch an average of 1170 minutes of football per season
a referee completes an average of 39 tempo runs per game. more than some star strikers in an entire season
experimenting with color when you don't know which one is better
i always try to bring to the smallest detail at the request of the client
the rule book has 162 pages. nevertheless, the referee always has a clear head. respect, referee!
the main background color was provided by the company, i.e. all illustration colors had to be combined with the background color, it was also necessary to keep a minimalist palette and not use bright colors like red or yellow, but sometimes it was necessary to make exceptions by showing a yellow or red card
there can be a lot of edits in the process, up to 10, to fix all the little things and bring the illustration to the ideal for the company
before a referee is allowed to whistle a professional match, he spends an average of 11 years in amateur leagues
the smallest details, imperceptible to the eye, but important in the work
the referee with the most Bundesliga games made 344 appearances. what an effort!
sometimes you need to increase or decrease to achieve the desired result
there are a total of 51,884 referees in Germany. And they all have one thing in common: fair play
